- How does the finger trick for the 9s work?
- Hold up ten fingers and fold down the one matching the multiplier. For 9 × 4, fold the fourth finger: three fingers stand to its left and six to its right, giving 36.
- Why do the digits always add to 9?
- Because each 9s fact is the matching 10s fact minus the multiplier. Taking 7 from 70 moves 7 out of the tens and into the units, so the two digits still total 9.

- Year 4 in England, as part of securing every table to 12 × 12 before the Multiplication Tables Check in June of that year.
