Parent questions

Which times tables does Year 3 learn?
Year 3 adds the 3, 4 and 8 times tables to the 2, 5 and 10s learnt in Year 2. This drill focuses on those new tables: 24 questions against a 60-second target.
Why the 3, 4 and 8 tables together?
They build on each other — doubling the 4s gives the 8s — and they are the tables the English curriculum assigns to Year 3, ahead of the full check in Year 4.
How does this help with the Year 4 check later?
Fluent 3s, 4s and 8s in Year 3 leave more room in Year 4 to secure the remaining tables, which makes Multiplication Tables Check preparation far less of a scramble.
