Reception addition practice
A gentle Reception maths speed drill: seven addition questions with numbers 1 to 5 in 20 seconds, so young children practise quick recall.
Short, gentle sessions build the number bonds Reception relies on, so adding numbers up to 5 becomes automatic recall rather than counting on fingers.
7 questions with a 20-second target — there's no cut-off, so take the time you need. Type the answer and hit Enter. Your time appears once every question is answered.
Parent questions
- What maths does this Reception drill practise?
- Adding two numbers from 1 to 5 — seven questions in 20 seconds. It builds the early number bonds Reception children need before moving to addition within 10 in Year 1.
- Is it suitable for a 4 or 5 year old?
- Yes — the numbers stay small, the session lasts well under a minute, and there are no adverts, accounts or distractions. An adult can sit alongside for the first few goes.
- How often should we practise?
- Little and often beats long sessions: one or two 20-second drills a day is plenty at this age, and returning children can try to beat their own best score.
